i'm ordering an adult size female festae @ around 6" from Jeff Rapps at Tangled Up in Cichlids. the female ones (which i would assue most ppl are after) is $50. however, if we do a group buy, we would save big bucks on the shipping. the shipping costs he quoted me for 91748 - Rowland HTS, near Pomona are as follows:
UPS next day air shipping of a standard single box with delivery to your door in Rowland Heights 'by 10:30 AM' is $98.38, next day air saver 'by end o day' is $89.03, or 2nd day delivery 'by end of day' is $57.46.
Jeff told me that one shipment, which is a single box, could carry up to 6 fishes at similar size. therefore, 6 of us from Socal area could split that $98.38 for the next day air by 10:30 am, which will be only $33 per person. Or we can split that $89 for the next day air by end of day, which will be $30 per person. personally, i don't want to do the 2nd day delivery by end of day for $57.46, because that way, the fish has to be in the shipping box for 2 days! but if no one joins me on this then i would have to choose this option.
i'm not sure if we can do a mixed order in one shipment, that is have different orders of cichlids, up to 6 of 'em, and have 'em shipped in one box. i have to ask Jeff to see if our orders of the different fishes will be ok with e/o during shipping, but if it is fine, then we can place orders for different fishes up to 6 of 'em in total, however, they have to be around similar sizes though.
lastly, adult size festaes are hard to come by, i waited for a long time to get a chance to buy one, so i don't want to pass this chance along by waiting for this group order to fall into place (if it takes longer than i hope). So i'm waiting to see if there is anyone to jump on this for today, and possibly tomorrow. i'll place my order w/Jeff tomorrow with/without anyone joining me in this order. remember, we don't have to have 6 people to do this order, the catch is on the shipping cost, unless if Jeff is willing to reduce price on this group order.
