Just some very quick pictures I took yesterday during a water change. The water is clearer than the pictures would suggest. The combination of hard water buildup and tannin in the water make it appear murkier. The first pic is my second biggest gator gar about to take a gulp of air. The second pic shows 6 of my 7 gator gars. Then the third shows some of the difference in not only length but width.

The two biggest are right around the 3' mark. Then there is the 2' very fat gar, in the middle of the 3rd pic. 2 at 21", 1 at 19", and 1 at 17"

very impressive...any info you can give us on age, particularly of the large ones? i'm pretty sure that 3' fish is one of the largest on forum in terms of NAmerica (private fishkeepers); i can only think of the guy in East/South Asia who seemed to have one that may be larger. great fish--

Sure

The two larger ones were purchased in late September 2010 around 32" each. The owner had them somewhere from 2 to 2.5 years. So they are about 2.5 to 3 years old now.

The 17"er was purchased around mid october 2010 at roughly 10". The previous owner did not know the age, as he only had it for 2 weeks. When I got it it was very skinny and had face erosion. It's been growing at about an inch a month.

The 24" gar was purchased late november 2010 at 20". The previous owner estimated it to be a year to a year and a half old. So it's between a year and a half and 2 years.

The other three were all purchased last month. Two, one of the 21" gars and the 19" gar were purchased from redtailcat and were estimated at 8 and 6 months respectively. The other 21" gar the previous owner only had for a month, so no estimate on age.

incredible gars and great info! please keep us updated on that big one!!
