Just wondering what the experts think about mixing Orinos and Dempseys. I have (2) 3" Rio Yucao Orinos in a 29 gallon grow out, and was wondering if I could add a similar sized (hopefully a touch smaller) Jack Dempsey. Will this work, or am I just setting myself up for problems. I def don't want to harm the pbass. Thanks for any thoughts you can provide.

I have EBJDs with my temensis peacocks and have no problems. EBJDs tend to be peaceful though. When my peacocks get large enough to eat the EBJDs I'll have to separate them. Regulars JDs are more aggressive so not sure your situation will work out. Probably depends on the aggressiveness of the individual JD. My experience with peacock bass is that there actually not very aggressive at all but will eat anything small enough to fit in their mouths.

Thanks for the input! I didn't even consider EBJD for some reason. I had a regular JD years ago in with a few electric yellow labs, he was not aggressive toward them at all. I think I just got lucky with a laid back Jack. I think you might be right, EBJD would be the safer choice for my Orinos.

I had a jack kill a pbass on me a year ago. Now, this was a very large jack, and a very small pbass. I also had the same jack bite a juvenile Oscar in HALF. The Oscar healed and went on to live another 8 months. I wouldn't mix the two if you didn't have to. But if you do, keep an eye on it. Just know the jack will strike when no one is around lol. Happened to me every time

Wow! Sounds like you had a Dempsey that lived up to its name! I think I'm going to hold off on the juv dempsey until I shift the Pbass into another tank.

Yeah we still have him, he's mean as hell lol. Oddly enough we put a juvie JD in with him and no issues at all... Judging by their markings the adult is a male and the juvie is a female
