I have just setup a grow out tank, going to to have six Grammodes in it all around 2 inches.

I was thinking about putting a catfish in there to clean up any food left uneaten, plus catfish are cool and any excuse to get a new one is a bonus. My partner can't spot them either so she has no idea i spent more money on fish.

Anyway any one got any ideas, don't want something that would eat my new fish.

The tank is 100cmx40cmx40cm which is 180 litres.

IDK how aggressive Cichlasoma Grammodes are. If they are peaceful, perhaps you could try smaller cats - like cories or SA bumblebees. I could suggest Pimelodus pictus but they need to be in a group of at least 6 IMHO and your tank's too small.

They are definitely aggressive. You might be able to do something like a raphael cat - they're armored and don't get large enough to be a threat to grammodes. They do hide a lot, so I wouldn't expect to see them out during the day a whole lot.

I agree. Also brings porthole catfishes on my mind. They are not hiders, very active and armored too. But perhaps you want a hider like a raph or a bumblebee that will only come out in the darkness to be spared the cichlid aggression.

synodontis petricola comes to mind or one of the other small African lake cats?.. and otherwise I agree w/ loaches they do excellent jobs as clean-up as well and are tough buggers generally.

I have a bubble cat, one clown loach i rescued him from a tank that was being badly kept and rapheal catfish in my 5 fooot tank.

i was thinking of getting a few more clown loaches and adding them to the tank, but i was unsure how they would cope with an aggressive cichlid.
