hi guys i have a pair of firemouths that layed eggs last july 2008, I have now about 70 little firemouths in a 50 gal tank, but it seems to me that they havent grown as much as they should have, the biggest ones are about an inch and a half.

do you think that is normal?

I feed them with hikari gold, tetra ciclid, tubifex, and sometimes some regular tropical fish food

Firemouths are really slow growers. I bought a 2'' firemouth and female salvini at the same time about 3-4 years ago and the firemouth is only 4'' and the sal is about 6''. I feed mine blood worms, pellets, and shrimp.

i had a pair spawn almost exactly the same time as a pair of convicts and the convict fry grew so much faster under exact same water perameters.

its is normal they grow relatively slow.

Thats a little slow, but not to far off for fm it might be a nutritional, space factor with around 70,thats alot fo 50 gal time to thin out the crop. When i cull my fry they go through growing spurts so this is probably what is happening.
