ive recntly thought about this and is there money to be made growing out rare fish and then selling them?

i think there might be some value in them if they are really rare and hard to get, but for the most part in my experience, ive noticed that fish get harder to sell as they get bigger

thats true... what about growing out fish in quanity and proving them as a breeding pair or something like that

You're probably going to lose way more than you earn in cash. The more valuable fish are either 1) equally expensive small and large, or 2) take years to grow out and will take more money in food

Your best bet would be to breed the fish and sell the offspring when they're young so they don't take up as much tank space, food, and grow-out time.

very good point what rare fish are good to breed and sell?

For money? Rays are the most profitable....gotta spend money to make money! Dats grow slowly but gain value....food would cancel out your profit but you get to enjoy them as they grow.....think of the food as putting money away bit by bit and enjoy them till you sell! Cichlids are the easiest to breed and sell....frontosa could make you $$

thanks chefken i dont have to worry about the cost of food i have a good freind who owns a fish store he gets me pellets real cheap

The only time I have ever made money when growing up a fish was a silver arowana. Purchased it around 3" for $20. Put about 10-15 dollars worth of food into it and sold it at 14" for $70. You really shouldn't expect to make money when raising fish as a hobbyist.

there are very few fish to make money from. When ive sold most fish i would sell for $10 on top of what i paid for it. Had luck that way but this can backfire as you can become attached to fish which makes it harder to sell and then when you sell it you wish you didnt.... My fish would be my 12 inch jag, 12 inch mala wolf, 18 silver aro

its is really hard as everyone stated when you factor in food cost....I am currently doing this with my Giant Gourami. Got him for 10$ at like 4-5 inches, he is almost 10 in now....and i got him on My bulk pellets and he is with my other fish as well so he is only eating like a few cents a day, i stand to make a profit when i do have to give him up.
