I'd never really had live plants in my aquariums until about 2 weeks ago, when I decided to pick up 3 hornwort plants from the lfs for my 55 gallon. I'm still just using a Sun Glo bulb, but they've grown noticeably in length in the 2 weeks that I've had them. I want to grow more, but I'm not sure how to go about it. If I cut some of the length off and let it float in the tank (or try to root them) will the pieces grow on their own?

They will grow on their own when separated. A big step would be getting a life glo 2 bulb and removing the sun glo.

Thanks for the reply, and that answered my next question about the bulb :)

Hornwort grows like a WEED! I had a tiny piece floating on Sunday and now it's covered half the tank. I also had a stem that was held by the driftwood and it has grown significantly too. If you hold them down with something, the bottom parts will die off and end up floating. I noticed the growth rate doubled when I put in my 2nd light. With the Coralife dual T5 6700k/1000k strips, they really grow much master. I think I'm going to have to get rid of half of what's there right now as they will take over my entire tank.
