Hello I am new to this site. I bought 3 baby reds about 2 weeks ago. They were about dime sized and now they are a little over an inch. They are in a 10 gallon tank for now. I have a 55 gallon tank that is cycling and they p's will get going in there when they get a little bigger. I have an emperor 400 and an aquaclear 300 filtering the 55 gallon tank and one powerhead. I am currently feeding the p's shrimp, talipia, freeze dried beef heart, color enhacing flakes, and cichlid pellets. I also use blackwater extract in the water. I was just wondering if I am doing everything correctly and what other things i can or should be doing to help them grow faster? Is there any food that I should be feeding my p's. Also I was wondering if you all could give me some advice on what your personal experiences were like and what you did? I just want to make sure I am doing things right.

sounds good.. you might want to get a heater.. and upgrade from the 55 later..
and i THINK water changes helps with growing.. not sure though.. i just hear it from a lot of people..

3 baby reds are good number. As soon as the 55g finished cycle i would put them in there ASAP. The longer you leave the reds in 10g the faster they will get kill because reds tend to be aggressive when young and very territorial.

As for tank wise 55g are good for 3 red however you might want to get atleast 75g or 90g for those 3 once the are full grown. Keep in mind that reds can grown up to 5-7"with in 9-12months if maintain with proper care.

Piranha are unprecdictable so I would drop the temp down to 76f untill you move them to the 55g.

At this stage you should als feed them 2-3 time a day with small portion with varity different food.

Don't do water change every other day....do atleast every 3 day 20% or every week 40%.

Remember good feeding,
well maintain
good water quality
large amount of space to swim
good filtration
active
feel comfortable

these will help the reds grow bigger and faster in no time. good luck.

just give them time. i prefer not to change up a bunch of stuff like dimming the lights and what not, i think that it just lengthens the shy behavior. just spend time in front of the tank and let them get used to lights being on and to your presence and after awhile, they'll be out swimming around regardless of whether people are near the tank or not.

I moved them into my 55 gallon today. Ha I havent seen them since. There is a lot of place to hide, drifwood and fake plants. They were starting to get too territorial so I decided today was the day.
