Just today my JDs laid eggs, so I expect the eggs to hatch in a few days. I usually let the parents try to take care of the fry, but it always ends in failure- no fry survive. (in community tank) This time, I think I am going to seperate them once they hatch into a plastic container with a bubbler. I will be doing waterchanges daily, so could I go without putting a filter on the container with the fry? Also, would it work if I floated the container in one of my tanks so I wouldn't have to heat it seperately? I still have to figure out how I would do this so any suggestions will be welcome. The food I plan on feeding them is Wardley's Essentials Small Fry Liquid Food for all baby fish livebearers and egglayers, is that enough? Or should I try to hatch baby brine shrimp? Anything else? Will I have enough time to hatch the BBS for the fry?

Thanks,
Dwarf

Yes tou can get away a airstone but a small sponge filter would be better.
Floating the container is good as long as you can prevent it from tipping and be sure other fish cant jump in.I use some homemade floating breeder boxes for small fry that work even better Ill see if I can find a pic of one.

They look like this,Scroll down to the 6th post for a pic.

The box is $1 at walmart the plastic canvas is at a craft supply store for .33 a sheet.Pvc from home depot acts as pontoons to make the box float.
I get a bag of zip ties from the dollar store to hold the mesh to the inside of the box.An extra piece of plastic canvas acts as a cover to keep the other fish from jumping in to eat the fry.
