So the common idea seems to be that, other than heavy feeding and water changes, tank size/water volume makes things grow faster. Along this line of thought would my orino's grow faster in their current 29gal growout tank or in my sump for the 300 where swimming space would only be about a square foot (functionally making it an 8gal tank with a 300gal sump) All thoughts, opinions, and arguments are welcome...

I think it comes down to water quality and swimming space. You can succeed in making your water quality just as good in your 29 as in your sump, and they will have more swimming room in the 29.

I vote 29.

I would figure that swimming/exercise would play a role in them growing as well. I also would just keep them in the 29, pump them full of food, and do hella water changes for optimum growth.

I think the current in the sump will make feeding hard to do.

If you want them to grow the fastest then pack the tank full of feeder fish. That way there is allways food available when ever they become hungry. And live foods grow fish faster than any processed/dead food.

That and do water changes every couple of days to keep the metabolites down. And a high turn over rate for exercise around 20-30x should do great.

Thats the basics of faster growth in fish.

alot of live foods
alot of water changes
alot of current
