I plan on building a 500 gallon tank for my natives within the next year and would like to know what a good growout tank size would be that would be to expensive I am open to any options in the $450.00 dollar range at an average a lfs.

Growouts will be (not at the same time)
Yellow Bullhead
Bowfin
Florida Gar
Largemouth Bass
Smallmouth Bass
Bluegill
and other similar size medium to large fish.

i wouldnt do anything lower then a 75-80gal but if 450 is minimum u can get a nice size 100+gal even new for that range depended on how big u want it 180gal glass tanks can go as low 350 to 400 around here that would be and awesome grow out till u build ur 500 with tht stock

Is a 120 gallon tank with a canopy for $350.00 from petsmart good or should I get a bare tank from my lfs and build a canopy.

Sounds pretty good. You should try and look on cl for some cheaper ones.I got a 120 with lights, two hob,and dresser/stand to put it on,bubblers, supplys, decor, fish, and had it delivered for 300.00.

+1 on the craiglist i have gotten all my tanks and items from craigslist u just have to wait for that rite 1 to come around>> nd a 120 would b a good grow out go for it

I actually just heard my friend is selling his he thinks it a 75 but it's 48"x24"x24" so 120 with lights, filters, stand, fish, and deco because he is tired of taking care of it.:headbang2

I personally think it's to small for a grow out tank, sometimes fish grow faster than you think and there's a possibility that you won't finish your tank in time by the time they out grow the smaller tank.I think you should stick with a 120 minimum.Just my opinion.
