Hello!

I am growing out a bunch of small cichlids in a 90 gallon. Festae, RTM & Texas cichlids. Is there any fish that you guys recommend keeping with smaller cichlids to help keep the piece? I was thinking maybe a small Oscar, or some Giant Danios? Or maybe some small active catfish.

Has anyone tried something like this before?

How small? Oscars could be a problem because of their rapid growth, and will more than likely eat whatever fish can fit in its mouth.

For small active catfish you, I'd say something like pictus catfish. Giant danios should be fine until the cichlids grow large enough to eat them but that would take time and they'd probably be accepted as a tank mate by then. As for smaller cichlids that'll hold their own I'd say convict or jewels. Maybe a salvini.

Im doing something similar in my 125g, my stocklist is 5 rtm, 3 gymnogeo sp. norte, 2 chocolates, 1 true parrotfish, and 1 pearsei. I added 3 silver dollars and added a bunch of caves and hiding places and it seems to be working out for me. I wouldn't add an Oscar I would scape the tank with plenty of caves and sight breaks, and add the danios, or silver dollars.
