Can anyone identify this growth on my Gar. It has been getting worse. It may have been caused when I tried to put him in his new tank (180gal), he jumped out of the net and landed on the floor. I am not sure how this happened. Any ideas. Hard to get clear shot, he moves around to much.

It is a viral infection called lymphocitis. Give it a short bit and a bit of salt (1 tablesoon per gallon) and it will go away. there is no treatment.

I should also add that while ugly it is unlikely to cause any damage to the fish..

Okay, I am confused, you say give it a short bit?????????

And 1 tablespoon per gallon? Isnt that an awful lot?

So it's like fish tumours?

not sure if you could call them tumours, maybe. Lymphocyte means blood cells and the prefix itis is inflammation. So inflammation of cells. Thats all i remember from school.:headbang2

Thats what I get for stupidly multitasking...
Actually that salt dose should be 1 tablespoon per 10 gallon.
This will help equalize the fish out...

Rest is just wait it out and it will go away..

Thanks, glad it will eventually resolve itself.

follow the salt treatment richard recommended, i would also raise temp to 82F as this will increase the metabolism and other internal processes. would also be good to bump up water changes...50% every week, or 2x that if it's already your regular schedule. fish will be fine--
