today i noticed a little growth on my gold severum close to his tail. it looks like a pimple on him. what would you guys recommend to clear this up if it can be? higher temp and salt?

Sounds like what my green sev gets from time to time. Small, all white, pimple-looking. The first one freaked me out, so I kept an eye on it. But before I really could, it went away. He'll get them every once in a great while, but they only last for like a day. Can't tell you what they are, though. I keep my tank about 81-82, fyi.
My sevs don't get that , but my red hump geo does from time to time. They go away in a few days . I don't think that they're anythingto worry about.
