ive had this guy for around 6 years now and when i came home today he had this thing coming out of his side. i tried to get some pics but was kinda hard coz he wouldnt stop moving. any help would be much appreciated

Looks like some bones are growing but some are not
Growth stun happens when the fish is getting bullied by some other fishes
 
Growth stun can be cured by separating bullies or ones being bullied but it isn’t a very severe case I don’t know if it would work
 
Bullying ? dunno about that,what i've heard is GIH (growth inhibiting hormones) and restricted tank space leading to stunted fish.

Sorry I forgot to mention about restricted space but yes bullying is also a major factor once my albino oscar got stunned by the tiger oscars and was not growing in noticed it after a month and then separated it
 
its not the stunting really hes been like that for years now.
theres these things grpowing out of his sides and i have no clue what to do
 
i just mentioned the stunting in case it has something to do with that
