So I set up a 75 grow out tank and currently have a tiger Shovelnose in there. There’s something on his nose that I’ve never seen on another Shovelnose and wanted to know if any of u know the cause and or if it will go away. It’s the white on his nose in the pictures

Also he does move much at all. All he does is chill in the reeds that I have in there for him. I introduced him in the tank about 4-5 days ago. I Assumed they were like red tail catfish because every red tail I’ve owned (4) they were very active at night and once I fead during the day would swim around scanning for food, but the TSN doesn’t even swim around at night from what I saw last night. The tank is in my room and I would watch his only tank mate ATM, a rhino pleco, swim around and enjoy him self. The TSN just sat in the reeds. I read that tiger Shovelnose do better in pairs so I’m thinking of getting another if I can find one similar size to George (TSN). If not I was thinking of getting another RTC because I love them so. If I got another RTC in stead of another TSN do u guys think the RTC would encourage the TSN to be more active or do u think only another TSN would do that?

Could be from lymphocystis. Would monitor for now. Can u get a close up pic of the fish? Is it eating? Has it been running on the glass?

I’ll get a better pic when I get back to my house if I can’t. Is it safe to add other fish because I’m on my way to the fish store to get him a buddy and some other fish to stock the tank. He’s eaten but I feed this morning and he didn’t even attempt the bloodworms

I netted him with extreme ease and got some pics then released him back into the tank. He hide behind a pot when I got more pics. I was otw to my LFS but I turned around because I read that the potential disease is infectious and don’t want to expose more fish to it.

Looks like a growth. Wouldn’t add fish in with it till it clears.

I feel part of the reason he didn’t attempt the blood worms this morning is because he’s still full from last time
