growth rate differences

ive have 2 batches of 4 pbass both in 30 gallon growout tanks
one batch i got on pellets after about a month the other not so lucky
but between the two ive noticed that the ones thats on strictly live is growing faster than the ones on pellets
anyone else experience this

water change schedule is identical- ~30% weekly and ~50% at the end of the month
feeding schedule-
live only batch: every other day gut loaded guppies or live blackworms
pellet batch: hikari sinking carnivore pellets every other day and whatever the live crew eats in between

the ones on live will always grow alot faster then the ones on pellets...but the ones on pellets will more then likely have alot better coloring as the get bigger, more then likely now. nice you got them on pellets already. I really trying to beef mine up so mine are getting feeders still!

i thought they would get more out of the pellots nutrionaly. therefor grow quicker?

i know its the case with stingrays.

I've experienced the same thing. Seems the best is a balance of both live and prepared foods so the cichla have a varied diet.
