They grow around 2" yearly. They aren't pretty aggressive, but have a temperment similar to that of bichirs, gars, or aros... but NEVER keep them with other members of the genus Gymnotus. Sometimes you can keep them with other Gymnotiformes (American knives), but this can be risky... however, I have kept them with BGKs and glass knives before without problems, and they do pretty well with Notopterids (African and Asian knives, excluding the aba... for example, Arican browns and clowns).
