I saw some earth eaters for the first time at an LFS I like to check out once in a while.

The employees said they were jurupari, but I know better than that, I could tell they were surinamensis, tiny buggers around 2"

I bought one on easter sunday, and I decided to go back and see if they still had them, to pick up another one (since they like to be in groups, right?)

They only had one left, and right away I could tell that mine looked bigger than this one.

There was no new stock, same fish as last time, but when I introduced it into my tank, the geo I picked up a week ago is more than just rounder than the new guy, but about appx. .5-1" bigger!

Are geo's know for this kind of rapid growth? I didn't come across anything like that when I researched them.

Did some more reading, and apparently geo's are known as slow growers? I'll snap some pics when I get home so you can see the difference.

IME geo's are slow growers! i got mine a 2in or so and in about in 6-12months they were 3in! just my experience! there also some fish hormonaley stunting growth too! but they are slow grower either way!:screwy:

Geo's stunt growth hormonaley, or some other fish was doing that to your Geo's?

Geos are relatively slow growers, i have had a Geophagus Altifrons pair for quite some time now, like 5 months, and have only got a few inches out of them. but my Alpha male has grow the most, about, 2.5" and has nice trailers beginning.

Interesting... do you think mine got that growth spurt because he was alone? So he felt like he was the dominant one?

Check this, he will chase off my two GT's slightly bigger than he is! Pretty cool to see.

I forgot to snap some shots the other day, but I'll do it when I get home and update this thread.

Well, this is the best pic I could get of the two together. They were sticking together when I introduced the smaller one, but now the first one I got is enforcing his dominance.

I think you can get the idea though.
