I was given a 14" venezuela pike a couple of months ago. Its a great fish and has probably grown another inch, if not more, since I've had it. Its put on a ton of weight too. I used to think oscars and peacock bass where pigs, but this pike is a hog.

I'm wondering what the growth rate is normal on large pikes.

I had one that I got when it was 2'', a year and a half later it was 14''.

My venezuelan's, aside from my channel cat, are the biggest pigs in my tanks. They will eat anything and everything that hits the water, and try to eat as much of it as possible. They have grown very fast indeed. I bought a ~4" venezuelan back in january, and s/he's about 8" already.

I think some of the growth rate depends on what you feed. If you feed mostly pellets and krill, then I think they'll grow a little slower. If you feed lots of meaty foods (like market shrimp, tilapia, and earthworms) then I think they're going to grow a little faster.

i have 2 in my 220 with a bunch of polypterus and a flowerhorn pair. they are roughly 1.5 yrs old and id say a solid 14 inches but have slowed considerably. ill have to try to throw some pictures on at some point but i beleive there both males. i have heard claims they can grow somewhat bigger but i personally havnt seen any past the 14 to 15 inch mark.

a side note, i know many people, myself included do not care for flowerhorns;however, to please my wife that was the only type of fish she wanted (sigh).

Do you think your males are still growing? I know mine is growing, but not quickly like a young fish. If they can obtain a length of 20", how long might it take?

I know its all dependent on conditions and genetics. Just trying to get a ball park idea of there growth rate after they reach 12" to 14".
