Does anyone know the growth rate of red terrors i have 4 currently in a 10 gallon they are no bigger than an inch i have had them for about a month and they havent grown much does anyone know how long it will take for them to reach about 4 inches?

some people think they grow slow but im not one of them. they do start of growing a little slow then you should expect about 3/4 of a inch per month until they get up in size then will slow down.

if you feed them a high protien diet and keep the water clean, they will grow very much like any other CA/SA robust cichlid. Your tank is small and shold stunt the growth a bit.

well actually they were in a 55 for a little over a month but i sold it and its being picked up tomoro so there going in a 10 gallon for now untill they get about 3-5 inches so i can put them in a 150 gallon. I feel bad for them but i thot they would grow faster but if i put them in the 150 they would be eaten instantly.

ok thanks i think they grow slow compared to other cichlids but thats just my opinion.

IME they grow WAY slower than any other fish Ive ever kept. Ive kept many festae over the years and grew fry in everything from 40 breeders all the way up to a 265g that all got weekly 50% water changes and fed live shrimp/earthworms/pellets/spirulina...and they never matched any other fishes growth rate that was in the tank with them or in separate tanks of the same size. Never even close. They usually grew about 1/3rd the rate that others did.

well they grew about 1/4 inch in about a little under 2 months when they were in a 55 but it is being picked up tomoro so they will have to live in the 10 gallon... im just concerned if it will significantly stunt there growth.. i have no other option if i put them in the 150 they will become oscar food.

does anybody know how long it will take red terrors to hit 4 inches if theyre 1 inch currently????

like i said i think they grow slow early on probably from fry to about 2.5 inches and then they take off and grow just about as good as any other cichlid imo. i raised 8 of them in a 125 and they grew from 2 inches to 8 inches pretty quick.
thats about when the growth slows way down around the 8 inch mark ime. if there one inch currently and you want them to grow fast feed as much as they can eat. flakes and small pellets and give them enough water changes to keep up with your feeding. also keep the tank warm. i dont think you will stunt there growth if your only raising them to 2.5 inches in the 10 gallon as long as you keep there water prestine.

ok cuz i feel bad for them being moved to a 10 gallon but i guess ill just have to wait till they grow. unless i want them to become oscare food.
