Visited a stockist yesterday and was surprised to see some red terror and red tiger mots frys with him. They're so uncommon that I've never seen them in the 6 yrs of my fishkeeping journey.
The lfs got some from the stockist but doesn't know the requirements they need. They're all 1" In size currently. What would be the probable growth rate and max size of the male and female of the two species? What tank size for a solo specimen and what tank size for a pair?

RTM are allegedly the slowest growing of the parachromis, as in only a few inches a year. Not sure about red terrors though but I hear mixed growth rates like vieja

I have been growing out a group of 8 M. Festae along with 12 M. Schomburgkii ‘Thin Bar’ is a 220G aquarium. The are on the slower side for growth than many new world cichlids. In the past 10 months my dominate fish have grown from 2 inches to 6.5-7 inches (possibly slightly larger, I’m just eyeballing this). I plan to seperate the smaller 4 specimens in the group within the next month.
Male festae can easily get 15-18 inches with females remaining around 12-13 inches.

This aquarium isn’t lite (I just light my fish room so images aren’t the greatest)

Here is one of a group of small male festae (1"-2") acquired (according to the date on the photo) Nov 2008

By Feb they were 6"- 7"

I didn't keep track much after that, but within a year, the males hit this size. (@ 10" - 12")

The one above is not from that same group, but representative of about years growth.

Any idea about the red terrors aka Festae?

Around ~ 0.5" a month, without 50%+ water changes every other day. From 0.75", female grew to about 3-4" from March to October. Male was 0.5" and caught up by then. Food competition was high and when conspecific aggression is added to the mix, more energy is burned chasing each other than growing. Female started laying eggs in February, this slowed her growth down.
