picked up a tapajos orange/red from Rich about a month ago now at around 6-7", put him/her into a 180 gallon and it's nearing the 9-10" mark now, is this a normal growth rate, was it just a spurt - what can I expect on max size out of this fish, and is there any way to discern the sex yet - or if it's not a deep red at this size is it a male?

pics would help alot, lugubris crenicichla generally get white stripe through dorsal if female and probiably lookin at about 18" max size, all this is just hearsay from me but i believe it to all be true.

Camera's out of order right now, see if I can borrow one - he/she likes to hang out under a large hunk of wood whenever I'm near the tank anyway, so it's going to be tough.

spend alot of time near the tank and do you have any dithers?

yea dithers help a lot in thie situation bro...

my pike are hardly ever hiding, kind of sad for the smaller it gets itself picked on this way.

It's not an issue of the fish being skittish, it just likes to stick under a peice of driftwood as it's territory.

It's in a 180 gallon tank with:
1 oscar
1 amphilophus rostratum
1 amphilophus nourisatti
1 convict
1 sajica
1 vieja argentea
1 pearsi
1 nicaraguensis
1 black belt
1 zonatum
6 clown loach
5 red hook silver dollars
