Yes, they're surprisingly fast growers. Mine attained 6 inches in about 6-8 months when I bought them at inch size from the store. At this point, they eventually slow down.
Depends upon what you have. The green/turquiose ones grow very fast. Rotkiels and some of the others are much slower.
Golds grow slightly faster then reds usually but both are sort of medium speed as far as severums go. They grow much faster then rotkiels but a little slower the greens.
Compared to other cichlids my gold's growth rate is somewhat slower than the others (in my tank at least).
Full grown though these fish are absolutely gorgeous for a common fish I think...
We have a massive gold sev in a show tank at the LFS...man that thing is pretty..

I find their growth to be slower than most similarly sized cichlids, but a lot might have to do with their intake of food and stress due to tankmates and other factors like that.
The green I used to hav grew at Oscar liek speed....My gold has only grown a inch or 2 in 2 years tho as a comparison.
My mates Red Spotted which he has had for a year has only grown a inch.
My Rotkeil which I have had fior a few months is still the size he was when i first bought him despite feeding everyday.
