I have a couple red bellies in a 20 gallon as a growout. I am prepared to get a bigger tank when needed, so nobody flame me. My question is this... what kind of growth rate is typical for young reds? They are about the size of a dime or quarter right now. I have been looking all over the web and just haven't found what I am looking for. Thanks in advance for your help!

welcome to the site, and growth rate depends on diet, water quality, etc...
if you feed them as much as they can eat per day then in a 20g id say in about 4 months they'd be almost 3" ish.. they grow very quickly, once you upgrade to say a 75 then they would hit 7 " within 8-10 months

growth rate depends on a number of factors, such as water quality, tank size, and feeding. if you get all of those down perfect, they should grow at least 1" a month until about 5-6", then they'll slow down little by little, i have seen it take as long as 2-3 years to get to 10". just keep up water changes, and regular mantenince.
