So I posted this in my kitty journal, but I'd like responses so I'll make it its own thread...

Grrrrr.... So, I was changing the substrate in my main tank tonight (thanks for the awesome black sand Jed!) so I took all the fish out off the tank and into an aerated cooler for safe keeping until I was done. Once I got the substrate finished, I put everyone back in the tank I noticed Rosco was swimming oddly...
Upon further inspection I noticed that one of his pectoral fins had punctured his side, and was stuck in his skin!
I captured him again (poor guy was already stressed) and when I couldn't get the skin off the fin, I gently (and carefully) snipped the skin away with scissors just enough so it would come off the fin.

He was so stressed! Poor thing, I feel so horrible! I added some salt and upped the temp... anything else I should do? I really don't want to lose him...

Sounds good. Maybe use some Melafix if it gets worst.

Thanks
Ive never used melafix before, will it be ok with the rest of the fish in the tank or should I put the hybrid in a hospital tank?

You always want to do a hospital tank if you have it...

K, well right now the only thing I have for a hospital tank is a 10g, and im afraid that would stress him even more...

Thanks bass, thats a good idea :D

I just checked him, and hes swimming around like nothing ever happened... he ate a silverside (usually eats 3-5 but his belly was still kinda full from yesterdays feeding, so Im not too worried about that) I hope he heals quickly...

keep your water really clean and he will be ok my rtc got all beat up a few times. when he was really little he even lost an eye good news is he lived long enough to get to enjoy the company and then the taste of all those that had ever harmed him .now fatty is king
