i have this one molly who never got ich in her small tank, but ever since i moved her into a 10 gal she has had at least one spot or two on her. she's been on meds but it never truly goes away. today i woke up 3 hours late to give her her meds (hey i was tired) and now it's exploded all over again. grrr... i'm going to go buy a heater and some salt later, but rid-ich+ sucks ass. XD

About time. Most posts on ich (on these boards) all describe heat and salt to be the best treatment. Your molly will definitely appreciate the salt since it's a brackish species prone to fungal infections in a FW setup.

Yeah a heater and salt should take care of the ich in no time. I find that most ich medications don't do squat. Heat is always the way to go.

hey now, the treatment before had been working fine. it is just a reoccuring problem, which i'm getting tired of. the tank temp is always at a constant 77 anyway, and i've heard that's fine for mollies. i was going to buy a heater for the winter. besides, i'm a poor college student. XD

Mollies will tolerate 77F. The ones I caught in Mx and CAm were all in waters with temps of 79F to 83F. And, all the waters tested out to light brackish. Keep the temp up, pH at neutral to alkaline, add the salt, and your recurring bouts should decrease.

mhmm, thanks anyway, i'm already on it. :) more of a ranting post than a cry for help, but you guys are all fantastic. thanks.

Poor college student is no excuse, I am a poor high school student but I still manage lol. I find if you keep the temp at 80*F or above, you won't run into an ich problem again. I have all my tanks at 80*F or higher and I have had not ich problems in years.

Yeah, after next year I will be in the same boat as you.

there are things you are supposed to do in order to increase the effectiveness of meds.
one is taking the charcoal out of your filter, the second is something a friend of mine did, was to keep a towel over the tank for the time you are medicating it so that the light stays out. I believe this is to reduce evaporation and the stress caused by excessive light.
