I keep hearing that you need a full marine aquarium to house a fully mature specimen. I don't mind providing it with a proper home, but I need to know first if I will be setting up a marine aquarium or if they tolerate brackish conditions throughout their life. According to the knowledge I've gathered about them so far, they will eventually need to be introduced into a marine setting. If anyone knows anything about them or has had experience with keeping this species, please enlighten me :)

GSP <-- Green Spotted Puffer Fish.

They are perfectly fine in high brackish conditions for their whole life. But if you bump up the salinity a few notches to marine & you can save yourself a ton of $$$ from doing weekly 50% water changes with a lot of $alt, by using live rock & a good protein skimmer, instead of freshwater filtration. You still must do water changes but much less amounts less often.

Thanks dude, that's exactly what I wanted to hear :) Thanks for the link btw.

Just to give you an idea--I had my GSPs in a 55g, at a SG of 1.015-18. With a 50% weekly WC, it took 10 cups of salt/week.

That is pretty high for a brackish tank, might as well have been a marine aquarium it's like what 0.2 off marine on the later measure, that much salt being replaced weekly could also get pretty pricey. I might just consider the full marine tank or something else altogether. Thanks agian for your input :)

Exactly what I was saying in my other post. ;)

Have any advice on how to slowly convert to marine, most if not all gsp's around here are juvi's and are in full freshwater. I only plan to get a single specimen and happen to have an empty 29g on hand.
