The Real Norcal
It appears I had my info mixed up as I thought both GT's and JD's aggression levels were often exaggerated, but am I to understand that its only the JD?Green terrors are appropriately named then?

GT's are fine if they are the only GT in the tank..add another and all hell will break loose,,it only last a few days, the they get used to eachother

IMO JD agression is way overrated, i have two and both are big puppies

I would agree about JDs but I have kept several GTs together and it's been fine but I have a lot of larger tanks and I think that it's a big difference keeping them in 100+gal tanks then keeping them in smaller tanks.

I agree :iagree:

My GT seems to be the most docile fish around, although close to the biggest, she tends to be a big puss.

Now my JD is a little different, lazy, and the only thing that moves his fat azz is the Very Aggro Tiger O, (or my offeinr more Krill!) he seems to lose his breath after a few foot of chase!

:nilly:

Well, if the "GT" you're talking about are the commonly found ones at LFS everywhere, then they are NOT TRUE Green Terrors. They are Gold Salms. I think the name came when they replaced real Green Terrors in the market many, many years ago.

The true GT looks similar, but hails from Peru, and is smaller and I hear truly aggressive. (I've never owned a real GT)

As far as gold saums, they can be pretty mean sometimes. I've had a few wild caught ones before. Once I had one that was a cocky bastard. It was really thick and at 6" it relentlessly chased my 12" Oscar, causing injuries to it so I had to remove it. It ate my little Electric Blue Jack Dempsey and spit it back out without the head. :(

I think they can be pretty aggressive to smaller or less aggressive fish, but they are not as bad as a Red Devil. That same GT stood up to my 6" RD and got his butt kicked( although he did land some pretty good hits lol I could hear em!). He also lost fights to 2 different flowerhorns. It also tried to fight my 11.5" Male Red devil, and after the first lip lock, he knew his place. :grinno:

The rest of my GT i've had have been pretty peaceful, only defending themselves if attacked or doing the occasional "MOVE B*TCH!".

They look very beautiful and a large green male GT with a bright orange flametail would make an awesome display in the home aquarium.:headbang2

haha that was a EXPENSIVE treat. !!! bet that made you feel great.

My Gt got cocky with my Jardini one day and got owned but I guess that was expected. I moved him to another tank with a jag and some CL's, where he is now the dominant fish.
