the GT is growing fat fast now that he been feeding on these large pellots

Oh yes ! I've had several small grow out cichlids, all about the 2.5-3" mark who have developed a real taste for really big pellets. THey sometimes look really ridiculous lurking about with an enormous pellet stuffed down into their throat, looking like they've just eaten three Christmas dinners at once. Seriously stuffed !

yessss!!
my gt did that aswell haha, nice gt by the way mate. my cichlids have always been a mess and eating at 3'' like little fatties.
my gt, oscar, red devil, flowerhorn and black belt. nice fish btw :D

thanks ya its crazy how they look stuffed with the pellots in there mouth. pellots as big as them haha
brave to
goes up to the top while oscar is getting his food also
oscar might mistake him for a pellot lol

IMO It's better to feed them smaller pellets they can swallow whole. There is less waste and mess and the fish benifit from all the nutriants available. My 7" GT gets 3mm pellets and my RD & Trimacs gets 4.5mm. The smaller fish are all on 1mm pellets. If there's food comming out of the gills they're not swallowing it.

I also don't recomend feeding GT's very large meals, a couple of smaller meals is better for/easyer on the digestive system. I've been using NLS Thera+A and have had excelent results, add some skinned peas a couple of times a week and your golden.

Looking at the first pic, I thought there was no way that GT was only 3", then I saw the Jag in the next pic and it became much clearer. :)

Great looking fish. I feed my 7" H. Temporalis cichlid the mini pellets too, just a lot of them. I find there is very little waste while he eats, and his poop is smaller too, making it easier to vacuum up. I also feed him peas, algae tabs and occasionally corn....I find the corn and pea poop harder to vacuum up because of the poop size. I see what the above poster meant by easier cleanup. I had considered getting larger pellets, but I think I'll stick with the mini pellets until he is almost 10".

I don't think I have ever talked about poop so much in my life. Weird conversations I find myself having on this site.

Most of my fish are the same way, even my 1.5" silver dollars will try to eat pellets 4x larger that what will actually fit in their mouths

Agreed. But in practice it can be very hard to achieve if you have a tank with very different sized fish in. Some fish will always aim for the biggest sized pellet available !

Yes, in that case you would use the smallest size pellet practical. I don't generally (and I say generally, fry not withstanding) keep fish with that great a size difference in the same tank however for whatever reason it is necessary from time to time. All things being equal this is not a case where bigger is better.

Agreed, i ran out of the small hikari golds now (and just feed flake to my smaller fish) and even my 2" Livingstonii goes for the largest hikari pellets that i put in for my Green Terror, Flowerhorn and Biffa
