The people at aquaria central have informed me that the giant danios I am using as dithers will get eaten. What do you guys think? The GT is only 4 inches right now.

It's possible and then again maybe not. It would depend on the temperment of the GT. I have the exact same setup that you are talking about. I bought the danios so he would stop chasing my salvini pair. He ate 2-3 then he stopped. He pays them absolutely no attention anymore.

Give it a shot and see what happens

Danios can pretty fast. If they do get eaten get him a convict. Gold Saums seem to love chasing convicts (and convicts and can take the attempted beatdowns).

My GT only likes to pick on my convicts and it ends in a stale mate seeing as the pair of cons combined is only 3" and he is pushing 4"...cons back up what they put out I've seen them tussle before and the female con got the best of him and he backed off. I agree the danios might work now...but when that GT gets older they will be feeders. Find a really nice Honduran Red Point with nice streamers and colors then you have color, something cool to look at (better than a danio), and a good dither for your GT...And I think its cool how cons just seem to go crazy after a human finger all the shaking you'd think they were falling apart.

My convicts chase even my midas off (right now he is only about 5 inches though but neverthe less they are way smaller)

in a year or so mabye if it can catch them

hopefully he will get used to them, and not decide to eat them once he gets large enough. Thats a long way off though, as the largest of the danios is almost as big as him.

giant danios work pretty well for me as well - though I do not have a GT.
