when I originally set up my 90 gallon I wanted to put my beloved albino tiger oscar in with my beautiful GT. The oscar is about 9 inches, and the GT is maybe 4 inches. But maybe two days after the combo was introduced to their joint home the GT began to dominate the whole tank, pushing my oscar around like mad! He would not however bother my young florida gar (i know how big they get dont worry). I had to seperate them putting the GT in his own 30 gallon, can anyone give me any suggestions on how this combo might work?

I think it just won't work. You could try another GT. I have the same exact problem in a 90 also. My Oscar is 10" and my GT is 5". My GT doesn't harass all the other little fish like it does to my big Oscar.

I separated them for like 1 month and then reintroduced the GT into the Oscar's 90 and the Oscar showed some little territorialism towards the GT...but after a few hours...the GT took over again and the Oscar was in the top corner...getting bit occasionally.

I just had to separate them. They would look so sweet together though. :(

In my past experiences I tried the same thing you guys did. My oscar was about 6in and my GT was 6in. At first my GT didnt seem interested and kept swimming like usual. But my oscar was intrigued and kept following my GT until he turned around and tried to swallow my oscars eye. I thus seperated the two. After giving some thought, I added a few other tankmates to spread out the aggression. I then put my oscar back in and they did quite well until I changed the tank. The GT are highly aggressive but usually are like enforcers in the tank. They just glide around and keep everyone else in check.

Yeap, that's what my GT does too....he kinda rules and keeps the peace...except for the big Oscar....he keeps beating on him...even if the Oscar doesn't want any....

I had alot of dithers and other juvie cichlids and they were fine....but not the oscar

sometimes you'll get lucky with the mix, but myself included had to separate my GT away from my 125 cichlid tank, cuz it was terrorizing my two oscars. so now its in a 55 with smaller midas and JD. i might re-introduced later on but for now we'll keep 'em separated.
