Is there anything in my tank that I can tweak to make my Green Terror have better color? I've noticed that the orange in his tail isn't as deeply colored as it use to be and I didn't know if there was an optimal temperature, ph, or type of food for best coloration. Right now the temp is about 79-80, ph is around 7.8, and I'm mainly feeding Hikari staple and gold. I'd really like to get his trim back to that deep dark orange color. Any tips would be great.

Hikari freeze dried blood worms cause all my fish to color up amazingly well. Live foods I have also found to color fish up well. My tiger barbs would always glow when I gave them live platy fry to chase and eat.

A varied diet and ample water changes are the best ways to color up any fish. I would keep feeding the Hikari pellets, but add other things to his diet. Fresh veggies are a must for GTs, try skinned peas as they are one of the best you can feed a GT and they generally enjoy them. Also Omega one make veggie pellets and flakes that are awesome. Add some crickets or nightcrawlers about once every week or two, and maybe one a month feed so fresh raw seafood I have never met a cichlid who did not enjoy this.

After about a week or 2 your GT should color right up.
