well i picked up 2 gt's 2 weeks ago. i picked out 2 out of about 10 and two days ago i noticed baby fry swimming around. i moved over half of them to there own tank as everything else in the main tank loves little fish, but i left some with the mom to see how they do as i dont have any experience really in taking care of fry. im crushing up flakes and today i bought a san francisco bay shrimpery for baby brines. just wondering is there a better hatchery and also what should i put in the fry tank its a ten gallon with heater and filter. i also wanted to know how often will the gt's lay eggs and what should i expect out of the fry how long does it take for them to get bigger and that sort of stuff. thanks in advance for everything.

I believe it's usually every two hours in small amounts. I'm trying to keep some surprise angelfish fry alive right now. Same setup, ten gallon with AquaClear filter set on low and baffled with a scrubbie. Heater set to about 81ºF.
Adding lots of live plants is good for providing edible algae and controlling waste. If I think of anything else as I go, I'll add it here...

Turkey baster is a must for removing old food or dead fry from the bottom. A tiny airline used as a siphon works, too, but it's harder to stop if a fry goes up into it. They say to change ten percent of the water daily. I haven't done that yet, but the tank is cycled and planted. Either way, I think I'll start doing it to avoid a pH drop. Hope we can help each other in this! :)

awesome thanks for the advice!! i didnt think about plants but i guess those wouuld help out alot. im doing a waterchange of 1 gallon or so a night i like doing that cause it brings the old food up and is very easy to net up when im adding water. i just added a small net so they dont get sucked up in the filter anymore lol. and so far havent found any dead fry so looks like things are going ok so far. good luck on the angels and keep me updated.

I put fairy shrimp in the tank to help keep it a bit cleaner. So far so good. Only lost a few to ground rot, but I don't know if they fell and died or died and fell. How are your fry?

Did my first serious cleaning tonight. Bastered the fry into a net and sucked up the muck on the bottom. Ended up with about ten fry escaping my rescue efforts and ending up in the bucket. Put 'em right back in, they seem okay now. Did a ten percent change and added more fairy shrimp babies from the snail tank...

How are the GTs?

I don't think that's often enough, from what I've read. It's critical to get them to a healthy, resilient size in a hurry. I'd say at least five times a day in small amounts would be a minimum, but I also have less experience than most with this, so if you've done it with success, awesome. Maybe less is more...

glad things with your angels are going well. my gt's all seem to be doing good. i put some plants in there and i think that is helping them alot. also the brine shrimp seem to be doing well for them. i feed them mostly when i get the chance at least a few times a day. i feed brine most of the time but also crushed up flakes occasionally and hikari chichlid pellets crushed just to mix it up a bit. also im getting my 20 gal ready for them im going to start cycling that tank hopefully this weekend. then start cycling my 55 if i can stop the leaking on that tank so i have bigger tanks to grow them out.
