I couldn't help myself when I saw him at an lfs while I was picking up some hikari bio gold, anyway he is about 2 inches and the prettiest I have seen at his size at that store, will try to get a pick when i move him, I have several question regarding this little baby.

How long till he is sexable?
How big should I expect him to get?
Can he coexist with a school of silver dollars?
How long till 10 gallons is too small?[he is only in here for quarantine and slite grow out]
cichlid staple and biogold okay for him?
will he eat plants if I put them in his tank? i want him eating some vegetation.
are convicts an okay tank mate when both are full grown? figure convict fry would be nice food for the big guy.

I want to keep him with an ebjd but i know I can't =\

What you did is pretty irresponsible.. But w/e. When he's 4"+ is when it can be easily sexed. Expect it to grow to about 6"-8" depending if its a female or male. I personally wouldn't keep any potentially large cichlid in a 10 gallon, but it should last a month or two. New Life Spectrum would be a better choice than Hikari, but feed whatever you want. Plants is based on whether or not you want them in the tank or not. If you keep a pair of Convicts with a GT, expect the pair to beat up on the GT.

he/she will get 6-9 inches, he can coexist most likely with dollars, i wouldnt leave a gt in a 10 gal for more than a day, yes cichlid gold and biogold are good, he will not eat plants, convicts are good tankmates, i kept an ebjd with a gt, but my ebjd was rowdy tho too. i cant tell you how long til you can sex it, oh a 55 gallon would be a good starting tank and then a 75

I'll be getting a 90 gal soon where my ebjd and the gt will be till the gt gets his own 75 or 100g. thanks for the imput, i have alot of nls also =] got alot of it from being a promoter so i guess i have a use for it now, i'm partial to omega one but people kept telling me it had too much protein

also I did do it on impulse =\ I knew afterwards I probably shouldn't have but he is pretty and he will be well taken care of

I would not keep the gt in the 10 gallon for over a week... He/she willl be sexable at 4"... Females will get to be 8-9" and males 9-12".. They are slow growers so be patient.. Hikari is good but new life spectrum is better... A 75 gallon would be minimum tank size...

Also to the above posters where did you hear gt's max out at 6-8"? Totally wrong lol

Find me a captive GT thats 12". Then I'll change my mind. I know wild GT's can get to 12", but not likely in captivity.

that is a beautiful gt, hopefully mine is male, and I don't like the standard 75, the 90 i'm getting is 36x24x24, for the gt i want 48x24x24, thanks for the info guys, hopefully he will be okay while the 90 is getting worked on.
