Hi all,

I have a GT (6", male) which is the dominant fish in the tank. He had a beef with my synspilum when I first introduced him but they fought it out (under supervision:WHOA:) and things calmed down for a couple of weeks.

However, now he is f*&king mental and relentlessly persues both my synspilum (6"+) and fenestratus (4"), even if they hide. It's like a switch just flicked. They're all in a 6'x1'x1.5 (100G, I think) so there's more than enough space. He just wants the entire tank!! There are 3 silver dollars and 4 other juvi SA/CA's no more than an inch in the tank as well.

I feed them a home made cichlid food (fish bits, shrimp, spinach, multi-vitamins, crushed pellets), and have tried lowering the temperature, separting them for a few days, but no avail.

I don't really want to get rid of him, he has awesome coloring and is a pretty cool fish to watch him doing his thing. Is my only option to put him in his own tank or sell him, or has someone discovered a miracle way of controlling one bezerk cichlid?

Pull him out and thump him on his head..... I think you may need to separate him from the other fish. Once he knows he can dominate the tank (which he has), then he probably won't stop until he torments the other fish to death.

yeah you pretty much are going to have to get a tank just for him or get rid of him. There's no way to make him calm down.

It is a green terror, nothing new. But do not be surprised if the synspilum come back out fighting.

well, I woke up to find my syn AND GT also pretty bashed up. Must have been a "do or die" brawl that I missed.

The GT is now gone. The LFS I got him from kindly took him back and exchanged him for a smaller GT (and less mental) and store credit.

all is peaceful again :)
