GT or JD

1st post, ooh yeah! anyways my blue dempsey croaked on me earlier

i was thinkin about gettin another one or a green terror instead.

which should i get?

I would get a normal male JD. Beautiful colors, and a very hardy fish.

How big is your tank and what else is in it? I prefer GTs, which is why I have one. I think they have much better colors.

Green Terror like fish have very inetersting personalities. If its big enough why not get a GT like fish and a JD.

I suggest against Blue Dempseys unless your willing to do the research and invest in the extra steps to keep them healthy...

If you go that route... Blue Dempseys are amazingly beautiful and just as interesting (personality) as regular Dempseys...

If you'd rather keep your risk to a minimum JDs or GTs (Gold Saums) are hardy, pretty and interesting fish... both have around the same requirements...

What size tank do you have? I have both and they get along fine. My GT is more interested in throwing down with my Carpintis than bothering that JD. They are both beautiful but if you have to choose one, I say GT

I would put both or a JD!!!

One thing to consider is the growth rate. JDs have average growth, but GTs grow very slow, so if you want a big one, buy a big one. I've had mine a few months and I think it is probably growing about half an inch per month.

It took my female GT about 2.5 years (starting at 1.5") in a 300 gal to acheive 6"... she hasn't grown at all in 2 years... (I've had her 5 years total)...


My female Dempseys grow the same amount in 12~18 months...
