Hey all, I'm currently stocking my 75 gallon, my centerpiece fish is a GT about 3", the rest are dithers and a pleco (taking back the rainbow shark today because it won't eat) and I was curious if you think i could add a red oscar without the GT and him trying to kill each other. There's an oscar at our petsmart that I really like that's already pretty big (5" or so)

Basically do you think the 2 fish would end up fighting? I don't want to bring the oscar in to a situation where it's just going to be constant aggression - if it helps i'm pretty sure the GT is a female and the only thing it's shown any aggression to so far was the peacock eel when i first added it but even those guys are fine now

yeah that's what i figured :\

What are you feeding the rainbow shark, and how do you know it is not eating? I have had one for a few months, and it seems to eat/clean the driftwood in the tank. I also feed massivore and sinking shrimp pellets. I have never seen my rainbow eat the food, but it is still alive, so I assume it is.

A Oscar would probably not be the best choice. They produce so much waste, and in a 75 with another large cichlid,it could lead to aggression problems.

If you want your GT to be the center piece fish, a larger fish will take away from that. If your pleco is a common, your tank would be really overstocked if you add a oscar.

I had one before which I fed shrimp pellets and also would come up for bloodworms/flakes, the one i have now has ignored all of those options, the pleco is a HiFin so it should be a bit smaller than a common, i figured the oscar would be overkill i just needed somebody else to tell me that before i did something stupid for the fishes sake

I should have payed more attention to your sig.

What about a severum? If you do take back your rainbow, and want another cichlid, that may work.

Or a feather fin cat could work too.

id say maybe if it were a longer tank, more gallons of course, but more swimming room to remove the agression level, it could work.. but seeing a 75 with a GT and others would be pushing it in my mind. am i right?! :nilly:
either way hope the 75 gal is working great for ya ;D

It is working out well, i'm happy with it :P

Sounds like a cool tank! Yeah, that GT is going to eventually grow into all that space and with your dithers/etc. you'll need the space. I think having a feather fin cat or two would look sweet instead of the shark. Just my opinion. It'd be a neat combo! Good luck!
