For the last month or so my Green Terror won't eat. I figured this was some random fast he was going on and didnt think to much of it. Every now and again he grabs a few pellets but never has a huge appitite. Lately I've been reading about people having internal parasite problems with GT's and it seems that mine also has these symptoms. He has white stringy poo and a sunkin in stomache.

He's alone in a 55G tank.
Water params are fine
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 10ppm

What is this, and how should I treat it?

i would treat the tank with metro if he is not eating well then in the food once he is eating better

try Jungle Parasite Clear; it includes metrodinazole ("metro") and a few other active ingredients; IME, it is effective, but more importantly, does not do any harm . . .

I know you said he's alone, but if you move him into a QT tank - - like 10G - - you can treat effectively with less medication . . . follow the directions, I would think you should be fine

if you want to keep some medicated food handy, Jungle also makes a medicated food that includes the same ingredients as the Parasite Clear

I would act quickly on this, based on your description (pix?)

this happens with most gt and i hear alot of he wont survive and this and that i feed mine peas and it does the trick but to make sure get some sort of parasite killer

I'm not 100% sure it's a parasite at all. I had the same problem a little over a month ago, and the only thing mine would eat was blood worms. I just rode it out, just feeding blood worms, and after a month they were back to normal. I tried quarantining and medicating, and had no results. It's really weird???

yea it happens to all gt

he looks a little thin, no doubt . . . I see some indentation in the belly, which is not good, but I've also seen much, much worse-looking GTs

keep in mind, parasites are not uncommon, and are not necessarily fatal either; best way to control them is to keep the GT in good clean water (0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and <20ppm nitrates) and give him high quality food

when you see a sunken belly and white, stringy poo I think it is a good idea to run a full course of JPC - - 2 to 3 treatments - - over one week and see if it improves. as noted, this treatment is generally considered safe and effective

Like I said, hes in a 55g alone with a marineland C-220 and a ac70. The water gets tested once a week before I do my waterchange and it always reads 0 ammonia 0 nitrite 5-15 nitrate. As for food, he eats Hikari pellets so idk how he got this.
