Never even thought of trying breeding Cichlids so don't know what to look for. But it turns out the female gt in the tank at work has been laying eggs, there's a 6"+ Albino Oscar in with her of unknown sex but she's not overly homicidal towards it and they've always been chummy. Is there a chance that i might end up taking home a load of feeders for my tsn here or is an oscar and a gt just never going to spawn? Advice please!

quite possible they could breed.. ive seen some pretty crazy cross breeds that you would never expect to happen.. free feeders would be nice :)

it's extremely unlikely they will produce any viable fry....unless it is a lab-made type of thing, it is not going to happen with these 2 species

yeah the fact that their both from south america is the closest they are related, other than that they are from completely different family groups, though there have been some pretty crazy crosses out there "usually" fish from different families don't produce viable fry, though with a big mouth like a tsn to feed some free feeders would be nice:naughty:

from reading the post, it is obvious he was referring to Astronotus being pretty far in relation to Aequidens, except both being cichlids from SA
