Ok i would like to know,
How big do the get???
What is the minimum tank size for an adult??
and basic care for them.
:feedback: :grinyes:

You could keep an adult male in a 55 and he could have some tankmates. the total number would depend on your water change schedule.

Mine like all types of food, I give them some bloodworms and krill but their main food is HBH cichlid food.

They will eat live but they seem to be a little nicer to other tankmates if you don't

I've seen them around 10 or 11"

Good luck you can't go wrong with a GT. :grinyes:

Males max ~10-12" and females 6-8". They should be ok in a 75g or larger. They are very easy "beginner" cichlids and are a pleasure to keep.

I think that adult male GT's may be one of the best looking fish there is. Especially if you can find yourself a show quality one.

Males can reach 12" so I would reccomend putting them in a 75 gallon when fully mature. They are easy to care for just give them the basics and make sure they have clean water.

I agree with a 75 in fact I prefer 90s but he asked for a min tank size.... a 55 would be the min.

OK thats cool because i have a 60 gallon, im gonna get one later today. do you want pics??
Also how long could i keep him in a 30 ( he will be only 2 inches so i need to grow him a bit) thanks

YES we want pictures!!!! remember we are picture whores.

He could live for a while in a 29 but let me tell you what I noticed.

I have GTs in 5 diff tanks 75gal to 125 gal and just for fun I decided to put one of the 2" into my 265gal and see if the extra room would be better for him. I have noticed that he is now around 6 or 7" and his tail is wider and his body is longer then the ones I left in the smaller tanks.

The 265 has a fairly strong current at the top of the tank and he will swim against it so that could have something to do with it but my 125gal also has a good current and the ones in there don't look as good as he does.

What does this all mean? well it could mean that he comes from better breeding stock but I think it may be because he had more room to swim around in.

So I would grow him in the largest tank you have.

Good luck I know that I love mine. Here is a pic of him.

Ok i'll try and get a picture of mine but he will not stop swimming for even 30 seconds for me to get a pic. As soon as i have one i will post it. Do you think he will be OK with a 6 inch arowana or will he get eaten??

Every fish is diff so you will have to make that call.

Do you feed the arow live?

Iif you don't he may not look at the GT as food but if you do feed live make sure the GT is a lot larger then the feeders the arow is used to.

good luck
