so I got these two gudgeons today, just labeled as mogurnda sp. volcano. I have no idea what species they actually are, and the LFS had no idea either. so, hopefully these pics are good enough, what do I have here?????

Most likely they are mogurnda adspersa their is a population of them that are from lake eacham a volcanic lake.

Adspera is protected, I don't think many fish get smuggled out of Australia do they? Plus the base of the dorsal fin is yellow and the top edge is white, which doesn't match any of the pics online

1000538_540201826042827_1845938479_n.jpg mogrunda mogruda can have a yellow base dorsal with a white tip dorsal. Cant really tell much of anything from the pics you posted especialy dealing with a family of fish that have so many almost identical species. I havent heard or seen any such sp volcano in any of my goby research. The one on the rocks favors adspersa they are from volcanic lakes and somtimes when people get fish they souldnt have they make up names like sp volcano. The colorless one on the bottom could be almost any mogruda sp. I say let them settle in take some better pics and try again.

i have my pair for sale now. may have to move some things around and keep them not a very popular fish in the usa. very nice predatory goby gets about the size of your average jack dempsey.

Very cool, that is defiantly them, thanks. I was hoping they were snakehead gudgeons
