Guess my lungfish

I know you need a photo, but unsure how to do that now and am redoing his tank, so want it to look perfect first.

My question is - what type of lungfish do you think this is:

Very thick - like 3 to 4 inches (head larger even). About 34 inches long. All grey - no spots. Again, Extremely LARGE head.

I've had it since maybe 2002 and I was told it was an African lungfish, but every photo I see of Africans are spotted in some way. The only marks he has is a large black scar on his tail when he almost died as a youngster and his tail fell off and it grew back. Also, for some reason he has some white - transparent areas on his body that may be bacterial, not sure, but only a few - been working on trying to get rid of that.

What do you think the scientific name of mine is?

But you have had it for 7 years and you never took a picture of your fish?

Nope, never a picture. But he is a beauty - an ugly beauty, but a beauty. He amazes everyone who sees him

I dont know the ID but check out the sticky above and google image all of the species and see what the body type looks like. Coloration can vary a bit so if you see what shape the head and body is you'll have a better time IDing your lung.

We can't really help you to ID the fish without pics. Sorry....

There are many different species of lungfish that have no spots. Some west african lungfish have no spot as well as the south american lungfish. You said it's about 3-4" thick and 34" long so it could be a south american lungfish or a slender african lungfish. We really need pics to ID it 100%.
