So, my mom broke a couple of tips off of my birdsnest last night, and though I should frag them. No point in letting them go to waste.

And while I was digging around in the tank, I pulled my "blow pop" zoanthids that had been slowly decreasing in number and staying closed or partially closed... I thought I would frag them too and try to start a new colony. For some reason, these guys werent very happy at all.

So after molesting the colony with an exacto, I find something very cute.

I have no idea which frag or colony purchase yielded this little gem, but its no matter. Because you should ALWAYS DIP YOUR NEW CORALS BEFORE PUTTING THEM IN YOUR TANK.

This could have been avoided. The remaining zoanthids this morning looked much better, but I am going to have to always second guess when I see a colony closed. For those who dont know by the picture, its a zoanthid eating spider.

heathd, what do you dip your corals in. I am in the market for some newb corals...zoo's, leathers, candy canes, shrooms, and kenya trees. I have some damsels in there now. If all goes well I'll add a pair of clowns in a few weeks. But I would like to have some corals in place for them when I get 'em. Just curious about the dipping process.

I think Coral RX pro is the most popular product on the market for dipping. They sell one shot solutions for 3 dollars at saltwaterfish.com, makes a gallon of dipping solution.

You take a gallon of saltwater out of your tank, put in the appropriate amount of dipping product, and soak the coral in the solution for 5 to 10 minutes. It says on the instructions to the gently shake, but most people just use a small powerhead or turkey baster.

After that, you pull the coral out and rinse it with freshly mixed saltwater and put it in your tank.

I have never seen one of those before in my life...hope that they didnt come in my shipment...

Sorry I didnt mention this heathd, but people that buy corals from me, if they say they dont have dip get enough for their shipment free! :D

Love the way that stuff smells.

Not likely it came from you.
