Im going to use 3m "S" grade for my tank, is there a formula for calculating for a tank. 72x24 is the footprint. From what I have read Im looking at about 3 inches deep???

To calculate volume, you just multiple all three dimensions together:

i.e. 72" x 24" x 3" = 5184 cubic inches

Unfortunately, (in Australia at least), substrate is sold by weight not volume. If that's the case for the 3M sand, you'll need to find out how much a given volume of the sand weighs and multiply it out to find the total weight required.

e.g. If 100 cubic inches of sand weighs 9 lbs, you'd have to multiply 9 by 51.84 (5184 / 100) to find your total weight. This would come out to about 467 lbs of sand (assuming 100 cubic inches of sand weighs 9 pounds).

I sorta guessed 5 bags by looking but I will get 1 more bag. Thanks guys
