Hey guys (=

I have had my red bellied for about a 3 weeks now, and He/she is doing well, and got some nice color on the skin.
He/she is about 2 inch long.

I am feeding him/she with cichlid sticks 3 times a day, and some days a shrimp.

How long should i be feeding with cichlid sticks?
And when is my piranha not considered a juvenile anymore?

Thanks (=

Raw shrimp and talapia are decent choices for feeding, I'd drop the sticks and try a good pellet. Mine take to NLS pellets very well and growth/health/color have been amazing!

After the 1st year rbp are considered sexually mature and therefore can reproduce, juvy imo is 2 or 3 inches to 4.

I thought sticks and pellets was the same thing, sure looks the same.
But it's quality and high with protein.

But i do feed with shrimps, but i want the food to be more varied.

But i've always heard that juvenile should have either flakes/Pellets/sticks, because it's better for them to start with, because of all the nutrition.
But i think i will try some fish fillet and perhaps some chicken.

I wouldn't recommend poultry like chicken because it has certain fats that can't be broken down plus no fish actually eats chicken they eat fish. Since NLS doesn't make a stick I've always used pellets and even when their adults I still use pellets and talapia. I've found that whole protein like talapia and shrimp gives them some flesh to tear up and satisfies their carnivorous diet and temper!

What ever fish you give them make sure its white fish. Fish like salmon leave oils in the water.

Once their spots go away then they are considered an adult. It won't be until a year when they are aroud 7 inches or so. When he's little you can feed him more than 3x a week. I didn't move my group down to 3xs a week until they hit 5-6 inches. But that's just me. I never gave mine pellets and they did just fine. I used shrimp, tilapia, beef hart, mice and feeders.

thanks for the replys (=

additional question.

So i guess my piranha is about 3 months.
Would it be okay, to only feed once a day? Or should i at least do it twice ?

Once aday would be fine but I would try to skip two random days to throw them off track of getting fed everyday. If I was feeding them everyday, I would cut down on the amount that you feed them too, I wouldn't fully stuff them to the point were they won't eat anymore. But just enough that they get some food on them and they are still on alert. Once they get around 7 months I would try to space it out. When I had mine I would fill them up on shrimp everyday and it got to the point were they wouldn't eat when I fed them, so once that starts happening, cut down on the feedings but that won't happen for a while, yours are still young. Good luck dude, I'm getting back in to reds again soon!

I tried the overfeeding approach to try to cut down on aggression, it failed epicly. Biggest one got picked off and they didnt eat for a week

+1

And try to avoid feeders unless you quarintine or breed your own. I have a 40b with guppies breeding like crazy, use them for my juvy mystery P tank and my rbp tank. Imo never risk store bought feeders with your stock. Pellets are great to get them on and obviously raw shrimp, talapia and whitefish
