A pair of Guianacara were acting suspiciously yesterday so I decided to take a closer look. Sure enough, they were guarding a big patch of eggs. Bad news is that the site is a few inches from the intake of an FX5, and it's impossible to remove the slate.

A few eggs turned white but were greenish (normal color for this species).

That's great! I find it funny how sometimes fish will disregard all of the nice hideouts, caves , and smooth surfaces that we provide them for breeding, just to find the worst possible place in the tank to spawn. Hopefully you won't lose too many fry.

Good stuff - did they have the choice of breeding in a cave?

Thanks. They had caves (cichlid stones) in their old tank, which they loved. No cave in this thank though since I didn't plan on breeding them. The spot they chose is actually the closest to a cave - enough room to turn around with a vertical surface and a ceiling.

So true, my Corydoras seem to only want to spawn on a heater burried in the back of the tank, also next to an FX5 intake..

Congrats Peter! Nice job bro!

Thanks Justin :) Some of my angels used to spawn on intake tubes as if they knew I couldn't do anything about it.

Congrats! What type of sand you use? Looks very fine/white.

Thanks. It's the good old poor filter sand.

i think it's because they sense the water movement and the probability that they would have to do less work because there's less chance of detritus would settle on their eggs? :)

lol could be. Little buggers. :D Saw some wigglers falling off the slate last night. Hope they'll move them to somewhere more accessible so I can siphon some out.
