Hello, I'm somewhat new to bichirs, used to have a senegal now I have an ornate. I work at a lfs and we had a Guinea bichir that sold pretty quick. I was wondering if anyone had some info on them as I haven't been able to find a whole lot of info that wasn't just repetitive.

Do you have the latin name of it? I guess you mean Polypterus ansorgii. They are one of the larger bichir species. Beside that they can be kept as any other bichir.

This is most likely Polypterus Bichir Lapradei. They are fairly slow growers but can get 24". Most of what i have seen rarely go over the 18-20" mark though.
They are kept like any other bichirs, in my experience they tend to be a bit more shy than most other bichirs, so as a start I wouldn't put them with fish that are really greedy.
Use google, you can find a lot of information now you have the scientific name.

Silly me, this could also be Polypterus Endlicheri Endlicheri. Google them both and check which one it is, (look at google images). Or you could of course upload a pic and we would be happy to ID it.

I don't have any photos but I may be going to a supplier some time soon and will probably be getting one and I'll surely post some pictures. Thanks for the input everyone, Latin names certainly help.

Its probably Ansorgii X Endi. When I ordered my polys from a LFS he said he had some called Guinea Bichirs, turned out to be Ansogii X Endi hybrids.

Guinean bichir is the common name of Polypterus Ansorgii. It is one of the largest lower jaw bichir that can grow to 39 inches in the wild and I have one right now that is around 21 inches long.it is a massive lower jaw bichir with a light brown base color with black checker board pattern markings and has a huge flat head.It can be kept with other bichirs as long as its tankmates are of the same size to avoid bullying and predation.
