I see most people keep their gulpers in bare tanks.

I assume this is to clean up waste easily?

Do the Gulpers not get stressed without any cover? As a nocturnal fish with tiny eyes, I would have thought they would?

I ask because I was thinking of doing a variarion on the bare tank with my Gulper.

I was wondering if they would be happy with sand and pieces of wood higher up as cover? ie not on the bottom (see right of pic). Would help me with cleanup and would allow me to see the Gulpers more, but I don't want to stress them out just to make my life easier.

I have it setup like this now, but was thinking of replicating the effect of the piece of wood on the right? Don't know, might be stupid idea.

Tank looks great! I had a Gulper in a Bare tank. I was actually kind of surprised that it's waste wasn't as much as I thought it was going to be when I first got it. I just wanted to keep it simple. It didn't seem stressed out to me, but in retrospect, I probably should've gave it some covering to see if it would prefer it over than just being out in the open all the time. I also didn't keep the lights on very often. When I did turn on the lights, it didn't react to it either.

Probably a baby bump and belly bump for thread bumping? Sort of a swing and a miss...

really creeping me out. Back to subject. I think most fish that do not use substrate to literally bury themselves for cover can be converted to bare bottom quite easily. All my tanks are bare bottom and my fish do not seem to mind one bit. Keeps the food easy to find and clean also, no sand with your shrimp :)
