Just looking for some good information on gulper cats.
I've got a 35 gallon (30'',16'',24'') that I'd like to grow a gulper out in and eventually sell once it got too large.
Any hints/tips in these guys?
Or any other monstr cats that could live for life/or be housed for a long time in a tank of thise size?
Thanks.

Or, how about some nice looking predatory cats that willwork in a tank this size?

you could keep a gulper in there for a long long time from what i hear. I picked one up a few days ago but dont know to much about them besides the basics that planetcatfish tells ya. Still trying to get the lil guy to start eating

Yeah, read all the stuff on planetcatfish.

How big is yours? Do you keep him in a barebottom tank? Planted? Just wondering what your set-up is like. I'm going to buy a 4'' for my 35.

Hes around 4-5" i have him in a 29 gal. tank with a natural rounded gravel on the bottom with a couple fake plants and a powerhead. Hes been very active and loves the powerhead but he still wont eat for me so hopefully that will change soon

Cool.
I gotta cycle my 35G before I put the gulper in it. For substrate I'm going to be using the natural rounded gravel with some large river rocks. Going to get some low light plants like Java fern and elodea. For filtration I'm going to have an AC110 aswell as a powerhead to give some extra current. To cycle the tank I'm going to put a bunch of whitecloud minnows, probably will be the gulpers first meal.

If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay for your gulper? I am seeing 4'' going for $75 here on MFK.

Oh, another quetion someone might be able to answer, are they known escapers? I have a large gap on my 35G's hood because of the powerhead and The HOB filter. And I wouldnt want the little dude to escape.

your gulper could probably stay in that size tank for life. doesnt do much except float around in one place. very old pic

NICE GULPERS!
That picture is so awesome. The top one's belly is so fat.
Gulpers just look awesome to me, the big eyes and gigantic mouth with the upturned lower jaw.
Just awesome cats.

Cant decide if I'm going to do barebottom or not, are they super messy at feeding time? I'd like to do the rounded natural looking gravel with some plants.

Haha!
Did he get ahold of a basketball somehow?

Cannot wait to get my Gulper. I think I might go for barebottom for ease of cleaning, and I think in a feeding frenzy the plants would just get thrashed around.

Did you ever have trouble with yours attacking or trying to eat your heater?
